About Project ARES

Young girl playing lacrosse.

From the Sidelines to Software

In the spring of 2025, one week before the season started, my youngest daughter's 8U lacrosse team was still looking for a coach. I volunteered, despite knowing very little about the girl's game. Over the following three seasons, I latched on to the idea that coaching shouldn't be this hard.

The tools available were disappointing. The experience was disjointed at best. One application to manage the team practices, one application to manage the games, and another to manage tournaments. The clunky technology experience prevented me from being able to give players personalized feedback on what to practice.

As I finished my Software Engineering degree at WGU, I felt like I had an opportunity to make a difference with my capstone project. What if coaches and players could get intelligent drill recommendations tailored to each player's needs? What if you could search, rank, and filter drills by age, skill level, position, and focus area?

Project ARES is where software engineering meets the sidelines. It's built by a coach and player for coaches and players. It combines analytics and insights with the passion that makes youth sports special.

The Mission

To empower coaches, athletes, and parents with intelligent tools that save time, improve player development, and improve the experience of youth lacrosse by leveraging data analytics to reduce complexity so that everyone can get to the best part of lacrosse: Having Fun.
